Mainland Common Centre

In 2011, the Canada Winter Games will be arriving in Halifax, where athletes will be competing at a massive, 176,000 square foot multipurpose facility. Costing more than $40 million, the new complex will serve as a venue for the Games as well as a major sport and recreation hub for years to come. Its impressive list of features is set to include:

  • An aquatic complex with an 8-lane, 25-metre pool, a warm-water 3-lane teaching pool, baby/toddler pool, hydrotherapy pool and even a water slide
  • The largest indoor track in Nova Scotia, with 200 metres of space and six lanes, as well as 4 full-sized gyms for sports such as basketball, volleyball and badminton
  • An 11,500-square foot health, fitness and wellness centre with state-of-the-art training and aerobics equipment plus an exercise studio for aerobics, yoga and Tai Chi
  • A meeting and multi-purpose common facility for cultural and community events, trade shows and exhibitions, and a convenient child care area

While the athletes will be embracing their own challenges, BMR has one of its own: complete the centre on budget and on schedule - in less than two years. Fortunately, it’s a race that BMR has won time and time again.
