Numerous BMR properties dot the Halifax waterfront and the city skyline, most notably the Purdy's Wharf Complex. Stretching into the harbour, Purdy's Wharf consists of two multi-storey office towers, the Xerox building, a parkade, connecting pedways and a restored wharf.
In addition to the challenge of erecting the towers over water, the first 50-70 feet of the harbour floor contained random, un-compacted fill - a setting that demanded strict investigation and evaluation. To this end, BMR created a three-dimensional electronic model of the towers, including foundations, fill and underlying bedrock. This enabled us to assess the structural requirements and variables imposed by the unique site, a critical step in moving forward with the project.
