Corporate Profile
BMR Structural Engineering
The original consulting firm of George Brandys
and Associates was founded in Halifax in 1963 by George Brandys,
P.Eng. In 1991, Roy McBride and John Richardson joined the Board
of Directors and Brandys McBride Richardson Engineering was formed.
Scott Underhill joined the Board of Directors in 2005 and the
company’s name was shortened to BMR
Structural Engineering. This new name represents who we
are and what we do while reflecting our history and embracing
the future.
BMR has played a leading role
in consulting structural engineering work in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
as well as throughout Atlantic Canada, and our reputation for
delivering performance and satisfaction continues to grow. With
more than four decades of experience in structural engineering,
words like innovative, responsive and quality are much more than
corporate aspirations and ideals. As part of our philosophy and
culture, these values constitute the building blocks for success,
brought to life by our staff and experienced by our many clients
on a daily basis.
Our service is founded on the provision of professional structural
engineering. We lend our expertise to a broad spectrum of structures,
including buildings, tunnels, bridges, wharves, sewage treatment
plants, cable suspension systems, and retaining walls. We are
industry leaders in the re-introduction of Tilt-Up concrete construction.
We also provide design services for reinforcing, modifying and
retrofitting existing structures. BMR carries out feasibility
studies, cost estimates, construction supervision, contract administration,
failure investigations, and load tests.
We have been involved in such notable projects as Casino Nova
Scotia on the Halifax Waterfront, the Sobey Building on the campus
of Saint Mary’s University, Purdy's Wharf Towers founded
on caissons in Halifax Harbour, the Halifax Infirmary, the new
Metro Campus for the Nova Scotia Community College located on
the Dartmouth Waterfront, the Cobequid Community Health Centre,
and the Maritime Helicopter Training Facility at CFB Shearwater.
We have provided engineering services for renovations and alterations
of many notable buildings including the reconstruction of the
250 year old St. George’s Church which was ravaged by fire,
and the replacement of the exterior cladding on the Lord Nelson
Hotel and The Bank of Nova Scotia Corporate Offices.
For BMR to live its promise of innovation and quality everyday,
we strive to stay ahead of the technological curve. Using state-of-the-art
computer technology combined with practical expertise for everything
we do, we aim to deliver consistent, industry leading quality
in all facets of our business.
So, what sets us apart? To begin, we listen. This enables us
to meet and surpass customers’ needs and expectations. We
offer unparalleled expertise and experience to deliver structural
engineering solutions that are efficient, relevant and beneficial.
Every project is viewed independently and analyzed from the perspective
of what is the best course of action for all stakeholders.
While we have achieved many firsts we never lose sight of what
has made this possible: our people. Working as a team, BMR employees
are recognized for the knowledge and skills each contributes.
