Purdy's Wharf Complex
Halifax, N.S.
The Halifax waterfront is dotted with properties
in which BMR has played a role. One of the most dominating projects
is the Purdy's Wharf Complex. Stretching into Halifax Harbour,
the complex includes two multi-storey office towers, the Xerox
building, a parkade, a restored wharf, and connecting pedways.
Not only were the towers to be erected over water,
but the first 50-70 feet of the harbour floor consisted of random,
un-compacted fill. To evaluate the structural requirements and
the variables imposed by the unique site, BMR created a three-dimensional
electronic model of the towers, including foundations, fill and
underlying bedrock.
