Sobey Building - St. Mary's University

Sobey Building - Saint Mary’s University

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Saint Mary’s University’s new Sobey Building is a highly functional, multi-use structure geared to the demands of modern university education.

Designing a building that can blend seamlessly with a variety of university architectures as well as front an upscale residential street is quite a challenge. That’s the task the architect faced with the new Sobey Building at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. BMR was selected as structural engineers for this striking building.

Conceived to consolidate Saint Mary’s business programs under one roof, the project consisted of the renovation of 86,000 sq. ft. of existing space in the Loyola Academic Complex as well as the construction of a new building interconnected with the existing complex.
