Melville Heights & Melville Gardens Halifax,
Nova Scotia BMR helped to insure these
landmark retirement facilities are comfortable, livable and highly
functional.
When the owners of Melville Heights selected BMR
as structural engineers for the construction project, they had
an exacting series of specifications in mind.
First of all, the upscale retirement residence
had to be able to accommodate a full nursing staff and a state-of-the-art
health care facility without losing its residential feel. Also
the owners wanted the large structure built out of wood, not the
most common building material for a structure of this size. The
roof was framed with pre-engineered wood trusses while typical
floors were framed with wood-I floor joists, which were all supported
on load bearing wood stud walls.
